Talismans - Today

A talisman is defined as an object intended to concentrate a specific planetary influence within a person's environment (or a desired location).

While astrologers place planetary influences within the development of individuals and communities, it is rather the magi and alchemists who have endeavored to capture planetary forces through talismans.

This curious word dates back to Arab occultists. The concept may be older... objects of planetary inspiration have been found in the vestiges of the oldest civilizations, and the Gnostics in particular have left specimens behind.

A talisman can have a strictly temporary purpose (facilitating an exceptional task), a special and limited goal (promoting a return to health), or a more general purpose (being beneficial to the subject from many points of view).

Through simple mental desire, one can imprint a particular action upon a talisman and thus create a talisman for relationships, or a talisman for finances, or a talisman for studies, etc. It will always exert a general action in addition to the intentional effect that governed its creation.

A trend more in line with the ideas of our time is emerging among dowsers, which is to use planetary witnesses as talismans.
