Several operators experience difficulty counting with a pendulum. The number of rotations or beats is "blurred"; the pendulum continues to spin or oscillate weakly after the result, which makes it very vague. This is why various authors recommend using a Servranx Universal Rule or a disc.

After having sought the unit of measurement with the pendulum (knowing, for example, whether to count in meters, decimeters, or kilometers...), hold the pendulum over the center of the disc. Striving to remain passive, intend to find the sought number. You will soon see the pendulum oscillate toward a point on the circumference. If you then hold the pendulum over this point, it will be easy to obtain the exact point corresponding to the sought number.
