Harmful waves

How can one detect, measure, and protect oneself from harmful waves of various origins?

Typically, the presence of harmful waves can be suspected when the inhabitant of a place—or several—suffers, roughly since staying in that location, from various ailments: restless sleep, excessive nervousness, chronic illness... or even in cases of persistent bad luck, strange character quirks, or mental disorders. All these radiations of different natures share only their harmful effect on living organisms. Their hypotheses differ, as do the protection methods they recommend.
